Sustainable Living Skills Camp 27th August – 4th September 2011
A whole week of living and learning in a beautiful edible landscape. The aim is to create a week of shared experiences from the activities we do together and develop our skills, on the practical side, as well as to enjoy an experience of community. Each person will bring their own skills and personality to enhance the experiences of the others and add their own special qualities to the week.
The week will include:
Building an Eco-structure
We will be making a structure for a solar shower cabin.
At the same time you will learn about a simple solution for solar water heating and the use of the run-off water.
Green woodwork
You will be learning how to use a pole lathe, which is a foot powered ancient design of device for turning wood, to make useful articles.
You will have the chance to make a stool and/or other small woodwork items
Crafts
You will have the chance to make a craft item. This may be a leather item, for instance a small bag or pouch, a basket, something made from wood or we may be able to offer other projects.
Growing Food
Permaculture gardening and food forest methods of growing food. How to keep your garden healthy and fertile.
Food Preservation Techniques
Learn how to preserve all the produce from your garden, including solar drying, juice making, bottling and other techniques for storing all that you grow.
Preparing Food
Bread making and baking using an outdoor bread oven. Solar cooking.
Learn about and make, delicious vegetarian food, raw and edible wild food.
Herbal Preparations for Home Use
Lots of practical recipes and methods for using herbs and plants to make remedies and household products.
We expect the evenings to include any or some of the following: meditation, deep ecology, discussions, inspiring films, tibetan singing bowls, music, percussion and drumming, singing, celebration and possibly more!
Please bring your instruments and your inspiration.
There may be many more things that will be included in the weeks learning just as a result of being here and seeing how we live.We may change some details but we will still cover all the topics in the programme We are always happy to answer questions or show you how we do things.
The weeks teaching will be in English
Cost : 235 euros per person
All meals are vegetarian and are included from lunch on the first day until lunch on the last day.
We are not able to offer concessions for this camp.
This camp requires a minimum of 10 people in order to run. Bookings for the event will close on the 31st July.
Due to the fact that we will be using sharp tools and we have no facilities for unattended kids we feel that the camp is unsuitable for children
